Why was the basketball program called "pork"?
The mayor had setup a midnight basketball program to keep juvenile delinquents off of the streets and from committing crimes. The mayor was trying to keep the crime rates down with this program. The crime rates were not dropping and the town was noticing. The public referred to the mayor's basketball program as pork because they thought that the mayor had set it up for political reasons instead of for benefitting the public as he said it was meant to be.
